1) install Wordpress into  /wp  directory on your root magento 

2) install fishpig extension via Magento Connect:
http://connect20.magentocommerce.com/community/Fishpig_Wordpress_Integration

On Wordpress General Settings change the default to:

Wordpress Address: http://magentostore.com/wp  <-- this is where WP is installed, do not change
Site Addres: http://magentostore.com/index.php/blog  <-- this needs to be changed, blog if you named it blog
http://popbetaserver.com/projects/mercoframes/index.php/events  <--  events if you named events instead of blog


4) Create a new Template for Wordpress, see magento note named:  Creating a custom magento template
