We all know that Heroin causes heroin addiction, right? If you break your bones for example, you will be taken to hospital and given loads of diamorphine(二乙酰吗啡) for weeks and months. However, diamorphine is the purified heroin, so why don't you come out of hospital and become a junkie? Let's put it aside for a while. In a series experiments in 20th', one situation will always happen if you put a rat in a cage with two water bottles. One is just water, the other is laced with heroin or coccaine. The rat will become obsessed with the drugged water and keep coming back for more and more, until it kills itself. But in 1970s, Bruce Alexander, a professor of psychology, noticed that the rat is put in the cage all alone and has nothing to do but to take drug. This is odd. Consequently, he built called rat park (heaven for rats, has all the things rats want) , with the same bottles. Now this case is different, as almost no rats is gonna take the drugged water. Another human experiment called Vietnam War, 20% of American troops were using a lot of heroin, people back in United States panicked worrying streets might be full of junkies after the war. A study followed the soliders home and found out that 95% of them just stopped the heroin after they went back. Thus, it might be connections or bondings that keep heroin away.

In this case, connection means relations with other people or affection in life, or something to devote to.
