Dimensions & Metrics

Dimensions
Characteristics of Users, their Sessions and their actions
  user dimension e.g. Geography
  session dimension e.g. Traffic source
interaction dimension e.g. Page Title (name of the page the user viewed)

Metrics
Quantitative measurement of users, sessions and actions. metrics are numerical data.
Audience metrics e.g. Visitors or Users
  Behavior metrics e.g. Pages/Visit
  Conversion metrics e.g. Conversion rate

Sessions/Visit period of consecutive activity by the same user. By default, a session persists until a user stop interacting with the site for 30 minutes

  Bounce rate
Percentage of sessions with only one user interaction (since page-view is an interaction itself, one user interaction will be landing on a page and exiting the site, if a user lands on first page and goes to second page of the same website, then its not considered bounced)

Visit duration and bounce rate are dependent on the number of interactions (where page-view itself is considered an interaction)
e.g. visit duration for a user who viewed page 1 at 8am and page 2 at 8:15 and then left will be 15 minutes.

For Ajax and Flash sites which doesn't generate a lot of pageviews, you might have to add events on interaction, to calculate visit duration & bounce rate accurately.
