Peru Mapping Community Activities

During 2015 and early 2016, Mapbox team has made a great contribution with Peru population through workshops in Cusco, Piura and Ayacucho.

In all those events, we realized that people who works in goverment are more interested in mapping , because they find a way to improve their processes; contribuing and using OSM data. As examples:

• Cusco's goverment were interested in cadastre and population growth in suburbs.
• Piura's goverment was worried about the "El Niño" phenomen.
• There was no goverment's attendee, but we can ensure that, same as Cusco, we need to be focused in cadastre, population growth in suburbs and agricultural information; this last one to detect risk areas for farming.

We can observe that every region has differents needs. Mapbox team can help a lot teaching to their goverments how to map and use the OSM data; while we contribute to expand the osm community.

Besides, we cannot forget about universities. In workshops, the major number of attendees were students, who were from differents specialties, and after the workshop, each one has a new idea to contribute to the society through mapping. It's important to show how big projects like OSM can help in many ways, not just for beeing aplieed in studies, but to make big projects than can help their cities.

Finally, taking big groups like governments and universities, we can help a lot, because these ones can involve population in different projects to satisfy needs in their own cities.
