Remove MySQL completely from Mac OSX
Open the Terminal
Use mysqldump
to backup your databases
Check for MySQL processes with: ps -ax | grep mysql
Stop and kill any MySQL processes
Analyze MySQL on HomeBrew:
brew remove mysql
brew cleanup
Remove files:
sudo rm /usr/local/mysql
sudo rm -rf /usr/local/var/mysql
sudo rm -rf /usr/local/mysql*
sudo rm ~/Library/LaunchAgents/homebrew.mxcl.mysql.plist
sudo rm -rf /Library/StartupItems/MySQLCOM
sudo rm -rf /Library/PreferencePanes/My*
Unload previous MySQL Auto-Login:
launchctl unload -w ~/Library/LaunchAgents/homebrew.mxcl.mysql.plist
Remove previous MySQL Configuration:
subl /etc/hostconfig`
# Remove the line MYSQLCOM=-YES-
Remove previous MySQL Preferences:
rm -rf ~/Library/PreferencePanes/My*
sudo rm -rf /Library/Receipts/mysql*
sudo rm -rf /Library/Receipts/MySQL*
sudo rm -rf /private/var/db/receipts/*mysql*
Restart your computer just to ensure any MySQL processes are killed
Try to run mysql, it shouldn't work
