GTD series [17]: followupthen as my waiting for list

##GTD series: can I use followupthen.com as my waiting for list ?##

When I make my review, there are tasks for which I cannot decide immediately what to do with.

Normally, on a trusted GTD system, these tasks are to be put on a Someday/Maybe list.

But I do not use such a list. So, to avoid to loose these tasks and force them to popup back on a regular basis in my Inbox, I use the email-based reminder Followupthen.com. Note that this service is similar to another one: Followup.cc.

###How do I use Followupthen ?###
When I want to postpone a task, I send an email (or forward the email-as-task) to followupthen.com using a formatted delay time in the TO field, like tomorrow@followupthen.com or 22Jan2015@followupthen.com. The service will remind me on that day by bouncing back the original email I sent.

Once registered, the site will help you to populate your contact list with the mostly used time formats for the TO field, including recurring times.

The free flavor offers enough options for a basic use: setting up a reminder (and recurring options), handling tasks and being able to postpone or delete. However,

  • your are limited to a certain amount of reminders per month and
  • the most disturbing disabled feature is that attachments included in the email you sent/forward are wiped out.

The service ruled many features:

  • followups.
  • tasks behavior (recurring reminder every 24hours).
  • canceling by sending a simple Cancel@followupthen.com reply in the email thread.
  • ....

But some of them are for Premium or Business accounts only:

  • response detection.
  • more (or unlimited) reminders and tasks.
  • a calendar integration.
  • attachments preserved.
  • SMS reminders.
  • customization of the email body (Business level).
