Twitter throttled traffic to disliked sites, then backtracked

Twitter/X was found to have intentionally slowed down links to websites that Elon Musk has criticized in the past. Users who clicked on links to Facebook, The New York Times, and other sites experienced delays of approximately five seconds before being redirected to the desired site. The Washington Post published an article exposing this practice, and Twitter/X stopped the delays. The affected sites also included BlueSky, Substack, Instagram, and Reuters. The delays occurred through Twitter/X's t.co link-shortening service, which allows them to monitor user activity. Elon Musk has a history of interfering with users he disagrees with on Twitter.
