GTD series [13]: your calendar is not a to-do list

The calendar is not a to-do list. Here are the most important reasons:

  1. You do not know how long a task will take. No. You think you do, but you don’t.
  2. To keep the calendar updated requires a lot of work. Each time you add something to the calendar, you have to shift other items and this consumes a lot of time.
  3. You do not know if you will be able to do the task at the scheduled time.
  4. The calendars only contains events which is a small part of all the items in your GTD workflow.

The calendar is not a complete organizational tool in itself; it is just an important part of any system of personal organization.
